What is Frontier UI?
Frontier UI is an add-on tool for Open WebUI that turns a model’s response into a visual, interactive answer inside the chat. It is aimed at people who use Open WebUI models for research, trip planning, comparisons, or practical calculations and want more than a text-only reply. The model supplies a small JSON specification; Frontier UI handles image and place lookups, routes, live data, and card rendering on the server. Core use does not require a hosted service or API keys.
Frontier UI Features:
Visual Chat Cards: Renders a model’s JSON specification as an inline, theme-aware card in a sandboxed embed instead of a wall of markdown.
Photo Galleries: Finds images through Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Openverse, with optional search providers and fallback when an image is broken.
Maps and Routes: Displays verified places and real street routes for walking, biking, driving, or motorcycles, with tabs for multi-day trips.
Interactive Planning: Combines itineraries and place cards with sorting, filters, per-person budget sliders, budget caps, and calculators.
Live Data Charts: Shows live weather and stock, cryptocurrency, and currency quotes with 1D, 1M, and 1Y chart ranges.
Actions and Exports: Cards offer copy, Gmail, calendar, and Notes actions; an optional Craft apps bridge exports real Word, PDF, Excel, and PowerPoint files.
Frontier UI Benefits:
Easier to Scan: Structured visual answers make key details easier to review than long blocks of chat text.
More Feasible Trips: Real routes and checked locations help travelers assess whether stops and day-by-day plans work geographically.
Faster Comparisons: Sortable and filterable place cards help people narrow options without manually reorganizing details.
Adjustable Estimates: Changing budget assumptions or calculator inputs lets users explore alternatives directly in the answer.
Ready to Share: Exporting a card as an office file can reduce the reformatting needed to pass work to others.
Server-Side Control: Keeping lookups and processing within Open WebUI avoids relying on a separate hosted Frontier UI service.
Use Cases:
Multi-Day Itineraries: Plan a trip with daily stops, route tabs, map links, and a per-person budget.
Restaurant Shortlists: Find nearby restaurants and compare their ratings, prices, tags, and map locations.
Market Check-Ins: Review stock, cryptocurrency, or currency quotes and charts while researching a market move.
Weather Planning: Check live weather while deciding when or where to travel or schedule an outdoor activity.
Budget Scenarios: Adjust trip budgets or use calculators for questions such as mortgage and currency calculations.
Office Deliverables: Export a generated answer as a Word, PDF, Excel, or PowerPoint file using the optional Craft bridge.
