What is Wisteria?
Wisteria is an installed Windows client for companion AI, designed for people who want one persona to build continuity through a single, ongoing conversation. It uses your API key with a supported external model provider; the model and its usage charges are not included with the software. Its memory system carries context forward over time, including experiences, shared images, personal records, and reminders.
Wisteria Features:
Continuing Conversation: Each persona has one session and conversation history, with a memory structure designed to manage growing conversations rather than simply discard the oldest details.
Narrative Memory: Recent conversations stay detailed while older experiences are gradually compressed into larger narrative units that the AI can use as its own past.
Photo Memory: Images shared during a conversation remain part of the AI’s ongoing memory context, so it can refer to them beyond a one-time description.
Diaries and Memos: The user and AI can create, edit, and delete diary entries for important details and memos for practical information the model can retrieve when needed.
Reminder Management: The user and AI can manage reminders, and a configured advance-notice window lets Wisteria’s notification system handle an upcoming reminder even if the AI does not mention it.
Thought Records: Model-generated records associated with responses are saved on the PC and can be viewed later in the application’s logs.
Wisteria Benefits:
More Continuity: A conversation can draw on shared history instead of repeatedly rebuilding context, making it easier to maintain an ongoing companion relationship over time.
Less Context Loss: Prioritizing recent details while compressing older ones helps keep meaningful history available as a conversation grows.
Controlled API Spend: Optimizing how much memory data accompanies each request is intended to reduce the cost of carrying long-term context through provider API usage.
Easier Follow-Through: Keeping practical records and reminders alongside conversation can help users return to details and upcoming plans without relying only on recollection.
Reviewable Records: Saved thought records provide a way to revisit the model-generated notes associated with responses from within the application.
Use Cases:
Ongoing AI Companion: Use one persona for conversations that continue across days or seasons, where earlier exchanges are relevant to what comes up later.
Personal Image Sharing: Share photos in conversation and return to them later when their context or meaning matters to the continuing exchange.
Important Personal Details: Keep details the AI should retain in diary entries, then let the conversation draw on those records over time.
Practical Reference Notes: Use memos for useful information that should be available to the model when it calls for it during a conversation.
Upcoming Reminders: Manage an upcoming date or task with the AI and configure advance notice so Wisteria can notify you even when the conversation moves elsewhere.
